Prefold Picture Tutorial
Monday, January 11th, 2010
When I used prefold with my newborn, I simply folded them in three and lay them in the cover. It was easy, but not always effective. Now, two years later, I stumbled across this FANTASTIC tutorial on how to do different folds. If your interested in folding, check it out:

Petition for a Tax Break on Cloth Diapers
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009
One of the first things I had planned on doing when I opened my cloth diaper store was to start a petition for a tax break on cloth diapers. Then I found out that other people had already started petitions and they did a beautiful job — the petitions are written far more eloquently than I would have done. So rather than start my own, I’m including a link to one by Happy Nappy Diaper Service. They started this past May and already have over 600 signatures!

It’s Official! Daisy Days will be at the Upcoming Hamilton’s Baby Expo
Friday, August 28th, 2009
The Hamilton Baby Expo is being put on by Social Mamas and My Smart Hands Hamilton, with all proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House. Its a great cause, and I’m so pleased to be a part of this event!
Even better: I will be sponsoring the Breastfeeding Room/Changing Area, which is fantastic. I still breastfeed my daughter (yeah, if she has her way, she’ll be nursing for the next seven years), and I’m thrilled to support other women as they nurse their babies.
And EVEN BETTER: I will be giving workshops on cloth diapering and babywearing. Woohoo! I think this is going to be an awesome day!
For information on the expo, such as when and where, check out www.hamiltonbabyexpo.ca.

More Happy Heinys on the way!!
Sunday, August 23rd, 2009
I’ve just placed an order for more Happy Heinys — hopefully they’ll be here before the Locke Street Festival. (Last time they sat at customs for weeks!) I’m so happy at how well they’ve been selling, although I’m not surprised… they are so easy to sell. Who doesn’t want a cute, soft diaper that grows with your child?
As soon as they come in, I’ll post an update here in the blog. Just a note — if you are looking for a specific colour that you don’t see in my store, please send me an email, as I can easily order them for you!

Benefits of Cloth Diapers
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009
Author: Anne P Jackson
Cloth diapers have been making a huge comeback from their decline in the late sixties when disposable diapers first started to make their appearance. Cloth diapers have many advantages over disposables, including the fact that they are not filling our landfills!
There are three main benefits of cloth diapers:
(1) Cloth diapers are better for your babies skin. There are little or no chemicals in cloth diapers and that means fewer chemicals coming in contact with your babies sensitive skin and leading to diaper rash. Organic diapers have even less impact on babies skin and their manufacture is better for the environment.
(2) Cloth diapers are better for the environment. As mentioned above, the manufacturing process of organic diapers has little impact on our environment. In addition, cloth diapers are not filling up our landfills at an alarming rate like disposables are. According to a 2003 study published by the women’s environmental network, disposable diapers are the third largest consumer item in landfills and make up about 4 % of all solid waste. No one knows exactly how long it takes for the average disposable diaper to decompose, but it has been estimated at anywhere from 250 to 500 years. That means that the diapers you throw away today will still exist when your great, great, great grandchildren are born. Astounding as these numbers may seem they are higher still in 2009.
(3) Cloth diapers are less expensive than their disposable counterparts. Thirty cloth diapers will cost approximately $600 if you purchase the better ones (Pocket diapers, organic diapers and the all in one style of diaper). This is enough cloth diapers to last for the entire time that your baby requires them. On the other hand, to purchase enough disposable diapers to last you through the time needed for your baby would cost over $3000.! It’s a huge difference and well worth the savings – especially in these difficult economic times. The savings would be even more noticed by purchasing simple prefolded diapers at a cost of under $100 for the usage time of your baby you will have all the cloth diapers and covers you need.
Your choice of cloth diapers will be measured through the years – both in financial savings and environmental savings. It’s vitally important that we all realize the negative impact disposable diapers have had on our environment. Yes, they are a part of the “Women’s Lib” movement and a rightful part at that. However, the time has come for a new sense of responsibility to our home and our babies.
